Why Cyprus

Cyprus against Malta, fact by fact

Cyprus charges 15% corporate income tax from 1 January 2026, takes 0% withholding tax on dividends paid to non-residents under its own law, and registers a company in about 10 days.

Who this is not for

  1. You want a company without audited accounts. Cyprus companies file audited financial statements every year; only small private companies under set thresholds may use a review instead.

  2. You need a business bank account within days. Opening one for a non-resident company is rated “difficult”, and account opening is not part of our registration fee.

  3. You want an address on paper only. The registered office must be a real office in Cyprus, not a mailbox.

FAQ

Cyprus for companies and new residents: short answers

Why do companies choose Cyprus?

Mostly for tax and EU access: 15% corporate income tax from 1 January 2026, 72 tax treaties in force and EU membership. Registration cost and timing are on our company formation page.

Checked on

Is a company registered in Cyprus automatically tax resident there?

From 1 January 2026, yes, unless a tax treaty provides otherwise. Management and control in Cyprus remains the second test, so a company run from abroad can be claimed by two countries.

Checked on

What is the 60-day rule?

An individual can become Cyprus tax resident after 60 days in Cyprus in a year, if they spend no more than 183 days in any other single state and meet the other conditions of the rule.

Checked on

What does non-dom status change?

A Cyprus tax resident who is not Cyprus-domiciled pays 0% defence contribution on dividends and interest. The status has limits in time; the details are on our non-dom page.

Checked on

Which work permit fits an employee of a foreign-owned company?

The permit for highly paid staff of companies of foreign interests. The salary threshold is €2,500/month gross, and the Migration Department decides in about 1 month.

Can I live in Cyprus and keep working for clients abroad?

Yes, with the digital nomad visa, if your income reaches €3,500/month and your employer or clients are outside Cyprus.

Can I still get Cyprus citizenship by investment?

No. The Cyprus Investment Programme closed on 1 November 2020. Naturalisation after 8 years of legal residence is the standard route that remains.

Do you guarantee that an application will be approved?

No. The Registrar, the Tax Department, the Migration Department and CySEC decide on every file. We answer for complete documents filed on time, and we tell you before filing if something in your case could delay it.
